Specimen Collection Point and Clinical Laboratory of Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio Hospital

Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio Hospital houses the General Clinical Laboratory with specialized areas. 

To provide the services requested, the Laboratory uses a complex technological infrastructure, which is constantly updated, improved and tested. The services provided by the Clinical Laboratory are based on a system of certified processes and controls

 

Specimen collection points

The following specimen collection points include:

  • Galeazzi – Sant’Ambrogio Hospital (Via Cristina Belgioioso, 173 – Milan, ground floor).

Active from Monday to Friday 7:30 to 9:00, in direct access.

  • External specimen collection point in healthcare facility - 2 (Viale Teodorico, 25 - Milan – Palazzo della Salute).

Active from Monday to Saturday, 7:30 to 9:30, in direct access.

  • External specimen collection point in healthcare facility - 3 (Via Palizzi 69 Milan – Smart Clinic Certosa).

Active from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 to 9:30, by reservation only.

  • External specimen collection point in healthcare facility - 4 (Via Pastrengo 111  - Varedo – Smart Clinic Varedo).

Active from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 to 9:30, by reservation only.

  • External specimen collection point in healthcare facility - 5 (Viale Sarca, 232 - Milan – Smart Clinic Bicocca).

Active from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 to 9:30, by reservation only.

  • External specimen collection point in healthcare facility - 6 (Via Pietro Calvi 36, Milano – Smart Clinic Centro Clinico Fisioterapico Milanese).

Delivery of the report

The reports, signed digitally and visible on line through the Regional Service Charter (FSE), are made available according to the type of examination.

For residents of Lombardy, they can be consulted by logging onto the web site www.regione.lombardia.it with authentication credentials and by accessing the Electronic Health Record.

 

 

Acceptance criteria

If the biological specimen sent to the Laboratory fails to satisfy the acceptance criteria of the laboratory (e.g. coagulated specimen, haemolysed specimen, insufficient specimen or unsuitable specimen container), the specimen collection points with inform the patient so that he/she can collect and deliver another specimen.

Considering that the use of suitable containers for collecting biological material at home (swabs, urine, faeces…) is an essential condition for guaranteeing adequate testing quality, Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio Hospital provides users with these containers free of charge at the specimen collection point. 

 

List of services

At Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio Hospital the laboratory provides services in the fields of Clinical Pathology, Microbiology and Virology and, through agreements with other laboratories, offers services in other fields, but only those for which it can ensure adequate specimen collection, storage and transport. 

The agreements stipulated are with:

  • San Raffaele Hospital of Milan, via Olgettina, 60 - Segrate Milan 
  • Bianalisi, Via Don Costante Mattavelli, 3 - Carate Brianza (MB)

Genetic and toxicity tests are performed exclusively at the Specimen Collection Point of Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio Hospital.

 

Blood and laboratory test preparation methods

Most of the tests require no special preparation, except fasting for 6-8 hours before the blood specimen is collected. 

The specimen preparation or collection methods for tests that require specific preliminary indications for the patient are indicated on the specific test preparation forms, which can be consulted by clicking here

For the  HIV test the patient must sign a CONSENT FORM available at the specimen collection points.

For other requests, the Specimen Collection Points can be contacted by e-mail or on the telephone during opening hours.
