Procurement specialist (Najaf or Basra based)

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist to join either Policlinico San Donato branch in Najaf, Iraq, or Istituti Ospedalieri Bergamaschi branch in Basra, Iraq. The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for managing the hospital’s procurement processes, including sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services to meet operational needs. This role is critical for ensuring cost-effective purchasing, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and supporting inventory management to optimize the hospital’s supply chain efficiency. The Procurement Specialist will also oversee supplier auditing to ensure compliance with hospital standards. The role requires close collaboration with internal departments and the Head of Procurement to align the procurement process with the hospital’s strategic goals and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and negotiate with suppliers to secure high-quality goods and services at competitive prices, ensuring alignment with hospital needs.
  • Manage supplier relationships, fostering partnerships to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Conduct supplier audits to verify compliance with hospital standards, Iraqi healthcare regulations, and contractual agreements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with hospital departments to ensure the timely procurement of essential medical and non-medical supplies.
  • Prepare and review contracts with suppliers, ensuring all terms, conditions, and service levels are clearly defined and met.
  • Evaluate supplier performance through regular assessments of quality, cost, and reliability, and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with local procurement laws and regulations, as well as hospital policies.
  • Process purchase requests and ensure the procurement process follows established guidelines.
  • Support the development and implementation of procurement strategies to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Report on procurement activities, including supplier performance and cost savings, to the Head of Procurement and senior management.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to address urgent needs and resolve procurement-related issues efficiently.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; experience in healthcare procurement is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement, with a focus on the healthcare sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Iraqi procurement regulations and healthcare industry standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and ERP systems.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) is mandatory.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
