Chief of Neurology
We are seeking an experienced Chief of Neurology to lead the Neurology Department at Policlinico San Donato branch in Najaf, Iraq. This role demands exceptional leadership and management to drive operational efficiency, service quality, and the professional development of the Neurology team.
The Chief of Radiology will be responsible for the department’s strategic direction, financial planning, compliance with healthcare standards, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. The role also involves overseeing staff performance, resource management, and continuous improvements in neurology services, ensuring alignment with the hospital's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs and supervises the operation and staff of the Neurology Department.
- Directs and supervises the diagnosis and care of patients with neurological diseases.
- Prepares reports and records as required.
- Makes recommendations to the Director for improvement of patient care.
- Maintains close liaison with other services especially in regard to patients with chronic Neurological diseases.
- Regularly makes rounds with house staff assigned to Neurology.
- Keeps abreast of new techniques and developments in the Neurology field.
- Provide medical diagnosis and treatment for diseases and disorders of the nervous system.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient medical records.
- Provide health counselling to patients and family members.
- Educate patients on the presentation of nervous system disease, including risk factors, genetics, and the effect of their surrounding environment.
- Rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders to maintain or improve the ability for daily quality of life.
- Coordinate the activities of a larger health care team to ensure proper care of neurological conditions.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership and other department heads to align neurology services with the hospital’s broader strategic objectives, including financial planning, performance management, and resource allocation.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree and no less than 5 years post-specialization degree in Neurology.
- Advanced knowledge of neurological protocols, diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, particularly in managing neurology departments or services.
- Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) is mandatory.

- Exceptional leadership and coaching skills to manage and develop the Neurology team, ensuring efficient service delivery.
- Strong expertise in neurology clinical practice, providing expert advice on neurological care and program development.
- Excellent financial planning and budgeting skills, with experience managing resources and equipment in a hospital setting.
- Advanced knowledge of Iraqi healthcare regulations.
- Advanced communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills, especially in complex medical scenarios and multidisciplinary collaborations.
- Proven ability to manage performance against key clinical, financial, and governance targets.
- In-depth knowledge of neurological research and advancements, ensuring up-to-date practices and innovations in patient care.
